Postpartum girdles – Do they work?

Postpartum girdles – Do they work?

If you’ve had a cesarean section, using a girdle or compression bandage isn’t medically necessary but it may offer an added sense of security. If a girdle or bandage makes you feel more protected and secure, it won’t hurt, even though it won’t necessarily help you lose weight or firm up.

I’m not sure if it worked for me like that, but after losing 10 pounds in a few hours, it helped give support for my abdomen. I hated the heavy and empty feeling of my stomach hanging there, my muscles too weak to hold it up, yuck. I wore it for as long as it made me feel comfortable, while easing into an exercise program, (gaining muscle strength by doing light leg lifts and sit ups- very, VERY carefully)

The Sculptures Everyday Wear garments designed to slim and tone, controlled my post-baby jiggle.  Sculptures Shapewear with comfortable invisible control gives you the look of a flattened stomach, slimmer thighs, and curvier curves.  You look better which makes you feel better!  The supportive control seems to improve posture and attitude, use this as motivation to develop a healthier lifestyle with good eating and exercise….and make every day Mother’s Day!!!

Caring for your Compression Wear

Hand wash your Compression Wear

Hand wash your Compression Wear

CDI Compression Wear is constructed with technical fabrics designed to feel good while aiding in recovery and offering support and shaping.  Be sure to follow the care instructions to ensure you get the most from your purchase.

What is the best way to launder my CDI Compression Wear?
The least damaging way to care for your Compression wear is to hand wash. We recommend that you hand wash your compression garment in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, and then air dry. Please do not dry your garment in a gas or electric dryer, for it may ruin the garment. Drip dry, do not wring out. Delicate or synthetic fabrics tend to dry quite quickly.  To remove bloodstains, simply soak your garment in a basin of cool water mixed with a ¼ cup of peroxide.

Can I machine wash?

NO!  CDI recommend that you hand wash to extend the life of your garment to avoid damage such as straps becoming tangled by the agitator.

Can my Compression Wear be tumble dried?

Tumble drying is never recommended. Even a low heat setting damages the stretch properties of your garment and dramatically reduces the lifespan.

Historic Moments in the Development of Shapewear

OldDesignShop_FrenchCorset1895-220x300Segregating the classes – Corsets (with boning made of whale bone, horn, or metal) elongated the torso, trimmed the silhouette, and improved the posture of regal 16th century aristocrats.

With revolution in the air during the late 18th century, royals set aside their corsets and panniers (false hips up to six feet wide!  The goal – to reconnect with the peasants in their simple attire.

1828 saw the invention of the metal eyelet, enabling corsets to be laced even tighter, again the wisp waste was in fashion.  Unfortunately the corset’s constriction of the torso brought on ailments ranging from shortness of breath to liver damage and tuberculosis.

The Edwardian Gibson Girls of the early 1900s favored the “health corset”.  Designed to avoid constriction of the lungs, the garment drew a nipped waist but threw the spin forward, into an unnatural S- shape with a memorable behind.

The roaring 20’s slim silhouette and shorter hemline introduced a bust to thigh pull on girdle made of rubber or elastic.

Dior ushered in “The New Look” (my favorite!) in 1947. A strapless garment with paneled construction and garters was a must to creating the wasp-wasted image popular through the next decade.

The 1960s brought panty hose, freedom, and the women’s revolution.

1998 Sara Blakely and SPANX introduced shapewear as smooth as a second skin.

Today stretch rules!  Shapewear that pinches, pokes, and digs into the skin are all in the past; thanks to BodyScan technology and 21st century fabrics and construction.

Muffin Tops Belong On Muffins

making

It’s the New Year, so time for a New You…and the obligatory quest to loose some pounds and that dreaded “muffin top”.  But can muffins be a healthy part of a new diet plan, based on a sound breakfast to start the day?  Rather than “the low fat muffin”  remake the home baked.  Most fat in muffins comes from plant oils, which is a  “good” fat—an unsaturated fat that is healthy for the heart. If you take out fat, what’s left? White flour and sugar—the perfect recipe for weight gain.  Instead of buying low fat muffins, modify your recipe…muffin top

1. Downsize the portions.

2. Go whole on the grains.

3. Incorporate fruits or nuts.

Go for the Muffin Makeover – maybe the Whole Wheat Banana Muffin!  In the meantime, give Sculptures everyday wear a try too….Does wonders for that other muffin top.

The Sculptures Everyday Wear garment is designed to slim and tone.  It hides little bulges, mainly the muffin top, the back, stomach and thighs and creates a smooth line.  If there is too much fat, the shapeware will move it somewhere else, so fit is key.

Designed to flatten the stomach and sculpt the torso, derriere, midriff and in some cases thighs – all is accomplished with no visible seams. Compression shapewear looks great under slim fitting dresses, skirts and tight shirts and yes, even form fitting pants.

Returning to Wellness Following a C-Section can be enhanced by the use of a Postpartum Girdle.

Returning to Wellness Following a C-Section can be enhanced by the use of a Postpartum Girdle.

It’s been quite some time since I was in the position to try and improve my body after a C-Section.   With weight gain that was more than a few pounds, I must say finding my pre-baby-body was neither easy nor quick.  I did accomplish the task, well before my daughter reached middle school, but a far cry from the speedy return to perfection today’s celebrities seem to manage.

Returning to Wellness Following a C-Section can be enhanced by the use of a Postpartum Girdle.  Gwen Stefani and Angelina Jolie have both previously admitted to using a Postpartum Girdle.   It won’t cause amazing weight lose, but it does support, and boost confidence.   The compression from a girdle following a c-section offers similar benefits that compression wear offers patients following a tummy tuck or Abdominoplasty.

SG-802 Epi-Derm Silicone Gel C-Strip – available at http://www.contemporarydesigninc.com

Following a cesarean section, using a girdle or compression bandage isn’t medically necessary but it may offer support, and the feeling of firm muscle control, while you gain strength in your abdomen. If a girdle or bandage makes you feel better, more protected, and secure – then do it,   It won’t hurt to use one, even though it won’t necessarily help you lose weight or firm up.

Another modern miracle brought to us as a post-op recovery aid is Contemporary Design Inc’s SG-802: The Epi-Derm Silicone Gel C-Strip.  These Silicone strips designed for C-section (cesarean) and hysterectomy treatment site are gel strips for scars – shaped to match your incision configuration.

How Does it Work?

Scars need an ideal healing environment, meaning the appropriate balance of moisture and maximum exposure to oxygen. Epi-derm® silicone gel sheets for scars are fully-encapsulating. This means the silicone strips completely cover the scar treatment site, making Epi-derm® an ideal treatment for scars. Although the entire site is covered, Epi-derm® is  gas-permeable, allowing oxygen to enter while maintaining proper moisture levels — the ideal environment for healing scars.  Silicone sheets are tacky on the back and easy to apply. Epi-derm® silicone gel sheeting is the most effective, proven method of scar management available today.

Your skin needs extra care when recovering from surgical procedures. Often, excessive scarring may be prevented by using a Postpartum Girdle in conjunction with silicone sheeting to assist in flattening of scars. The Postpartum garment can be worn up to 24 hours each day.  A perfect plan for C-Section Recovery!
